Hi, I’m Heather…

I live in Mittagong with my partner, three-year-old daughter, scruffy dog and six chooks.

My working life has focussed on supporting women’s safety and economic equality, including in Australia, Ireland and Bangladesh.

Wherever I’ve gone, the most positive force for change is always the same: community.

That’s why I believe in the power of local democracy.

Our council is ready for a total refresh. We need a new kind of councillor: people with a deep sense of community who are willing to step up and take responsibility for building an ambitious, positive vision for our community.

Younger people, women and parents with young kids have been almost totally unrepresented in our local government for far too long. But often they’re the people who have the most interaction with council services. As a mum, I’m constantly grateful for parks, pools, playgrounds, libraries, and footpaths – and I can see a million ways to make them better.

That’s why I’m running for council. To help make the Southern Highlands thrive.

Together, we can make the Highlands a place where we don’t just build houses, we build community.

Where everyone has a chance to enjoy nature, parks, music, sports and art.

Where we provide much better support for young people, families and those who are struggling with housing affordability.

Where we take bold climate action and protect our incredible biodiversity, planning for the long-term sustainability of housing and development design.

Caring for our piece of country means it will be there to enjoy for generations to come.

In my spare time you can find me bushwalking around local trails with my family, singing or playing violin in local music groups, making ceramics or riding my bike. I also love any opportunity to dance.

I’m always excited to meet neighbours and other locals who have a strong sense of what we can be doing better. I’d love to work with you – please sign up to stay in touch.
